Often utilized by hobbyists, kerf bending is a way of easily bending wood without expensive setups by cutting slots into a sheet. The aesthetic can often be seen as undesirable due to the faceted look and way that it makes even solid wood look veneered.

By utilizing this dismissed technique, the Shutter Light finds a unique way to diffuse light. The slots act as channels for the light to pass through gently diffusing on the sheet’s thin outer layer. The result is a rhythmic striping pattern that contrasts the organic woodgrain.
